Victoria and David Beckham’s Cotswolds mansion caused problems with neighbouring estates as they attempted to make their land more private amid their family feud.
The 51-year-old fashion designer and her ex-professional footballer husband, 50, first purchased the home on the Great Tew estate near Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire in 2016 for around £6.5 million.
Since then, they have made numerous alterations to the property that have caused its valuation to skyrocket to about £12 million, however they are now reportedly wanting to add extra privacy measures to their driveway. The lavish property also features a man-made lake, a sauna, a football pitch, and a bee garden.
The famous couple, who have become estranged from their eldest son, Brooklyn, after he claimed they were “controlling”, upset their neighbours after they applied for permission to plant 79 trees on their land and create a wildflower meadow.
The types of trees are said to include 19 English oak, 15 small-leaved lime, 12 European beech, eight field maple, seven Scots pine, five common hazel, five sycamore maple, four holly, and four English yew.
As part of their application, submitted to the West Oxfordshire District Council, Victoria and David want to plant trees along one side of the estate, forming a woodland-style perimeter intended to add an extra layer of privacy.
The new driveway measures are expected to help block the property from view of the nearby road and passersby, following previous attempted break-ins at both their London and Cotswolds homes. The couple have installed 24-hour security at their addresses since then, according to the Daily Mail.
Neighbouring residents are reportedly unhappy with the couple’s proposal, and one person submitted a formal objection.
The Beckham’s ongoing drama
Aside from their home issues, Victoria and David have been embroiled in a heated feud with their son, Brooklyn, and his American billionaire heiress wife, Nicola Peltz, since he proposed to the actress in 2020.
The hot sauce founder revealed his personal gripes with his parents in a scathing message on his social media and stated he had no intention of ever reconciling with them and would continue to live his life without them in Los Angeles.
Since Brooklyn’s public outburst, the Beckhams have rallied around one another, supporting various endeavours, including Victoria’s fashion runway show in Paris and Cruz’s tour with his band, The Breakers.
The 21-year-old embarked on a UK-wide tour earlier this year and is due to play his final show in London on 27 March. His girlfriend, Jackie Apostel, has been by his side and has also shown her support for her in-laws, wearing Victoria’s designs and posing for pictures with the family.
