How to reduce the risk of slips and trips – Fareham care home to host free advice event

A care home in Fareham is inviting people to join a free event where they can learn about reducing the risk of falls among older people.

On Tuesday, April 14 from 2.30pm to 3.30pm, Care UK’s Parker Meadows will be offering expert guidance on maintaining independence and reducing balance problems.

Customer Relations Manager Joe Gould is a falls champion after being trained by Hampshire County Council to deliver their talk, which will cover the common causes of slips and falls and ways of preventing them at home or in care, as well as sharing activities and exercises that improve balance and reduce the risk of falls.

Lukasz Mikolaj Irzabek, home manager at the Redlands Lane care facility, said: “Here at Parker Meadows, we strive to provide in-depth advice to people in the local community to enhance their understanding and confidence on what can be a very important issue. We’re so pleased we’re able to do just that with the help of Hampshire County Council and Joe Gould.

“It’s imperative that family and friends have the correct information to create a safe environment for older people in the community and help prevent accidents. This knowledge is beneficial in reducing health issues that can occur as a result of falls.

We are looking forward to welcoming everyone for what promises to be an interesting and inspiring afternoon of advice and guidance.”

Parker Meadows provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. The home incorporates plenty of space for hobby and leisure activities in addition to independent-living bungalows on site. The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge and dining room to facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
