Edinburgh local brands community an eyesore as ‘persistent’ fly tipping plagues area

A Clermiston local has slammed flytipped mess that has plagued their community. The resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, has shared images of a communal bin area on Alan Breck Gardens which has had several items dumped at the site.

In images shared with Edinburgh Live, a bag and boxes containing empty Tic Tac boxes, vapes and tinned food items are some of the things visible at the foot of the recycling bins. Other household items including a mop, close horse and seat are also visible.

Edinburgh Council have been quick to uplift items however the resident says new waste appears the next day.

The resident said: “I just feel disappointed that the person doing this has no shame and no sense of pride in the area. And that they quite happily make the area look like a dump and don’t care, they live here too, so why bring your own local area down?

“There’s personal items within the rubbish so we know where it’s coming from. I would say to the person do they want to live like this?

“Rubbish strewn everywhere? Bags aren’t even tied so most of it has blown everywhere all night.

“It’s not right outside their own door but they have taken the time to walk down the road so it’s out of their own sight but in everyone else’s. It has been ongoing now for about two week.

“And it’s been every single day. Beds, furniture, mattresses, food waste, black bags, children’s clothes and toys, mirrors, several vapes and personal items, shoe boxes, takeaway boxes and tinned food.

“To be fair on the council, the rubbish gets lifted as soon as its reported, but once it’s gone, more gets dumped. There needs to be a stop to it.

“We thought a story might highlight the issue and make the culprits think again, as they think this is acceptable behaviour.”

Edinburgh council have been approached for comment.
