A historic Dorset manor once home to a member of the Churchill family has hit the market for almost £1.6 million.

The Grade II listed property in Buckland Ripers, known simply as The Manor, still carries the Churchill lion rampant crest above its front door – a striking reminder of its 19th‑century connection to the family line that would later produce wartime Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill.

Set within more than two acres of landscaped grounds, the five-bedroom house combines clear echoes of its aristocratic past with the comforts expected of a modern family home.

The current owners have carried out a sensitive restoration, upgrading insulation and services while retaining hallmark features such as beamed ceilings, cast‑iron windows, feature fireplaces and even secret passages.

The manor’s long history stretches back to the Domesday Book and includes ownership by the Frampton family and use as a hospital for wounded and sick Commonwealth soldiers after the First World War.

The interior is arranged over four floors. On the ground floor, a dual-aspect living room and large dining room both open onto the terrace, with open fires and a woodburning stove reinforcing the period feel. A farmhouse-style kitchen, fitted with bespoke oak units, granite worktops and an oil-fired range, also opens directly onto the main patio.

On the first floor are three double bedrooms all with feature fireplaces and shuttered windows overlooking the lawns, two bathrooms and an en-suite WC. Stairs lead to the ‘little attic’ bedroom at one end of the corridor and the ‘large attic’ suite at the other.

The grounds of more than two acres, bounded on one side by a tributary of the River Wey, have a variety of mature trees and even a tennis court.
